Learning to write instructions

We are reading the story How to Wash a Woolly Mammoth and to help us write the instructions we looked at recipes to help identify features of instructions. Working in pairs the children found: headings, number lists, bossy (imperative) verbs, method = how to, equipment lists, ingredient lists, titles and much more.
