Hello Year 5, I hope you have all had a good week.
Did you enjoy the VE Day celebrations on Friday? We decorated the front of our house with bunting that Lucinda made and watched all the special programmes on tv. As the weather was so lovely, we also decided to have a barbecue which we really enjoyed. Later on, we finished the day with Lucinda’s fairy cakes and scones with jam and cream - delicious!
Many houses on our street were decorated with bunting, balloons and flags and some people had a picnic in their front gardens! What did you do? I hope you had a good time.
On Saturday, we had another day in the garden planting and tidying. Lucinda has now planted lots of lavender all round our garden that should add a wonderful aroma and attract lots of bees. Hopefully it will grow (unfortunately we are not very green-fingered!)
The new home learning plans are on the school website now and there is one for Year 5.
For English and maths I have provided a range of activities and I would recommend you complete one of each every day. I also recommend having a look at the Maths Factor website (link on the planning document). Lucinda has been working on it for the last few weeks and is really enjoying it.
The other activities on the plan are linked to topics we would have been covering at this time in school. You will find there are some writing tasks in the science and history section, for example writing an explanation of how flowering plants reproduce. This gives you an opportunity to practise skills we have covered in class. Remember we wrote an explanation of why we have night and day in our Earth and Space topic.
I hope you find the plan useful. I know that you are all probably in your own routine and that is fine. Continue doing your best.
Before the lockdown, Mr Mountcastle was due to have a meeting with your parents about secondary schools. He has put some information about secondary schools on the website. Please visit:

Have a good week everyone, look after each other and stay safe
