Dear Year 2/3,

Hi guys I’m missing you all lots and lots and can’t wait to see you all again soon. Hope you are all ok and taking good care of yourselves.

While I have been off school I have been painting my house with my husband.  I’ve been baking for my grandparents; I have baked banana bread, brownies and lemon drizzle cake so far.  Have you done any baking?  I have also been doing lots of exercise to keep fit and healthy.  Have you been exercising too?  I really like the Joe Wicks live workouts, do you?  Could you come up with your own exercise routine and show it to your family?  I really enjoyed clapping for the NHS and key workers.  Did you and your family clap?  How did it make you feel?  Could you write why you think clapping for the NHS is a good idea?  Could you write a poem or a letter to say a special thank you?

Don’t forget to keep reading it is very important.  I have finished one book so far and can’t wait to get stuck into my next one.  I love reading in the garden in the sunshine.  What are you reading?  Where do you like to read?  Are you still doing the 3 o’clock stop?

I hope you are still practising your times tables there are lots of games online as well as the Time Tables Rock stars.  Remember to keep practising your number bonds to multiples of 10 (54 +6 =60, 60 -6 = 54,) as well as counting in your 50’s.  There is a great game on the Top Marks websites to practise your fractions.  Type in fraction wall, then press scatter have ago at putting the fraction wall back together.  Have a 3D shape hunt around your house.  How many 3D shapes can you see around your house or garden?   I have allocated more work onto the abacus website for you to work through at your own pace.

Why don’t you try and create your own mythical creature and create a report about your creature.  It could be a mix of different animals or completely made up.  Where does it live?  What does it eat?  What does it look like?  What is it called?  What are its specialties?  Your report could include a heading, subheadings, a diagram, a ‘did you know’ section as well as lots of interesting information about your creature.  Get as creative as you can.  Remember to proof read and edit your writing.  You could draw, paint, sculpt or collage your creature.  Get inventive!

Remember this is a very special week as it is Holy Week.  You could retell the story of Easter or create a news broadcast about what happened, remembering to put the events into chronological (time) order.  You could include interviews, why don’t you ask one of your family members to film you and we could watch some when we get back to school.  Remember it is a special time to pray with your family.  Could you plan your own liturgy for your family around Easter?  You could include a prayer, special objects and a hymn or nice music in the background.

I hope I have given you some ideas to carry on with your home learning.  Remember to enjoy this time with your family, play games and have fun!

You are all superstars and I am very much looking forward to seeing you all again soon.

Have a lovely Easter, don’t eat too many eggs! : )

Lots of love,

Mrs Griffiths and Mrs Heitzman
