Dear Parents/Carers
Last week Mr Mountcastle put a few extra links on the home learning page of our school website. One of them was White Rose maths which has provided daily maths lessons for each year group. This looks good and it provides a worksheet to go with the lesson. I can see that many children have been playing the abacus maths games, if you cannot remember your child’s username it will be their first name and initial of their surname with no spaces. Some of the usernames start with a capital letter and some do not. The password for everyone is fun and the school code is vdst.
In English in Year 1 we are aiming for the children to be able to write five sentences that make sense and are punctuated with capital letters and full stops. It is more about quality rather than quantity. The home learning for this week refers to traditional stories, in particular Jack and the beanstalk. The children could retell the story but maybe change the ending- e.g. the giant could be lonely and make friends with Jack. Alternatively they could retell another traditional story. Many children enjoy making their own little books. Your child could read their writing with you to check it. Some children may want to write about something that they are interested in using a non fiction book or a website or they may enjoy writing a letter.
Completing a couple of writing tasks a week would help your child, along with some handwriting practice and phonics games on phonics play.
I hope that you find these ideas helpful.
